My favourite memory of Java was at the beaches of Pangandaran on the South West coast, fishing with a few children. They didn't seem all that good at it to start with, and I'd decided they wouldn't have much for dinner that night! Eventually the line went tight and they pulled up an eel! The one child immediately ran off - scared, I thought - while the other smashed it with his flip flop. The other boy soon came back though - with a rock to drop on the eels head! .....the eel was then quite unusable!
Touring the rural areas on Motorbikes was a lot of fun, allowing me to get out to the really rural areas to see how they live - washing in the river, the shacks they called home. With such a huge population on such a small island - the densist populated island in the world, finding these areas wasn't easy, but clear to see how the over population was such a huge problem.
