I'll be honest. I was watching a Bear Grylls episode on TV - he was in the Sumatran Jungle. One of the densest Jungles the planet has to offer, home to some of the craziest insects nature can conjure and I had to organise a trip! Bespoke Bears, Tigers and Rhinos unique to the Sumatran Jungles, Birdlife out of this era and of course the famous ginger giants - the Sumatran Orang-utan!
To appreciate the Taman Gunung Lauser Jungle at its best, I trekked for two days, camping over night in the Jungle.
Lantern Bugs, with their freaky nasal anatomy.
Tree trunks bearing the scars of recent Sumatran Bear clawing.
Hornbills heard overhead with their eerie, Jurassic Park like sounds as they fly over the canopy.
Orang-Utans in the trees launching chewed fruit at your face.
And AJ Smith, camera in hand, running for his life from the clutches of a hungry Ginger beast! Twice, we were caught out as the hungry 'Minna' (yes, this Orang-Utan is famous and named) bounds through the Jungle towards us in the scout for food. My guide showed me the scars this hungry mother can leave behind and I'm happy with the way my limbs look thank you. She can leave them alone!
