In 2006, I finished my degree in England - I decided a trip was in order! I actually started the two months in Bergen, Norway and from here travelled to Amsterdam, through to Munich and on a plane to Cairo.
Egypt was an eye opener in many ways; it was my first experience of Africa, my first of the Middle East and my first real in depth experience of a Muslim country.
After 3 years of my degree, I was keen to just kick back and relax - hours in Cafe's around Cairo, and on the coast of the Red Sea in Dahab, Sinai were spent enjoying Egypt's Tea (still now the best I have found yet!) while sucking up the local culture of Towla!
I (finally) took my diving course in the Red Sea, before catching a ferry over to Jordan. Jordan was too, a fantastic country to visit - the main highlight, Petra.
One of the natural wonders of the world, it was incredible to see this historic city of tombs calved entirely out of the mountains. The most impressive, The Monastry at the peak of a hike. This carving is in fact almost free standing and protrudes higher than the remaining rock it was carved from.
The ancient city is reached via a one mile walk down a fault line where the earth has torn a track in the mountains. When the end is reached, you catch a glimpse of The Treasury through a jagged cut before leaving to view the entirety of the sculpture.
Petra is one of the most incredible phenomena I have seen on this planet - anyone who has the opportunity to visit, cannot pass it up.
